SUITABLE FOR ASPIRING AND EMERGING WRITERS

Popular fiction stories are entertainment, where characters do things and stuff happens.

Multi published and award-winning in full length books and short stories, Alison Stuart is the perfect person to guide us through how to write a short story in popular fiction.

This practical workshop will include how to plot a short story, as well as narration and dialogue. And if you have a short story you’re currently grappling with: bring it along!

Alison began to write short stories when work took the family to Singapore. It was a way to keep writing whilst undertaking all the commitments of her ex-pat life. She’s been published in anthologies as well as stand-alone short stories and has extensive experience judging short story competitions. She was recently published in the anthology The Hauntings of Livingstone Hall, a not-too-scary collection of ghostly comings and goings in an English country house. She also has a free super-short story currently available on her website. The Promise is a romantic tale set during the American Civil War.

By the way, in addition to her contract with MIRA (Harlequin) Alison Stuart has just been signed by Berkley (part of Penguin US) for a forthcoming cosy mystery (crime) series, set in Singapore before the first world war. Front and centre is Miss Harriet, a suffragette, who battles with the social mores of the day to be able to detect murderers and bring them to justice.
